School Games Mark Framework 2020/21

For this academic year 2020 - 2021, the School Games Mark will once again be paused due to the COVID-19 situation. The School Games Mark Framework will take its place and be positioned as a self-review tool to support educational establishments reflect on their involvement in the national School Games programme.

For all schools that currently hold a School Games Mark, this will remain your School Games Mark until the system is back up and running. For schools who were previously on track to apply for a School Games Platinum award or who currently hold this award, your status will not be affected.

The new framework is a development tool that schools can use to self-review their engagement and provision. We therefore hope you find this a useful tool to work through and reflect on your current provision and uptake and how the School Games can be positioned to help all young people reconnect and engage in school life. The School Games Mark Framework remains open to all schools and educational establishments in both the state and private sectors with Key Stage 2 and above young people who are engaged with their School Games Leads.

The local process will be as follows:

Step 1: Complete the self-review tool on the School Games Website before the February 2021 half term break.

Step 2: Share your findings across school with colleagues, SLT, Governors and your School Games Lead.

Step 3: After the February half term (at the latest) implement some ideas/changes involving your school staff and the young people at your establishment.

Step 4: June / July 2021 review what you have put in place that has made a difference to the young people in your establishment, using the updated tool on the School Games website.

Step 5: (Optional) Share what you have done with your School Games Lead who can promote it across the local and national networks.

Step 6: Make sure you are ready for the 2021-2022 academic year with a new revised developmental plan.

We do encourage all schools to complete the self-review tool this year, as it will hopefully highlight areas of work for moving forwards into the coming years (potentially with your recovery curriculum). On a personal note, any Gold or Platinum School Games Mark schools should be completing this tool to ensure they keep their status, please make sure you complete this as soon as possible. With this in mind, I will be running two 1-hour workshops (virtually after school) to go through the self-review process before the Christmas break, so please look out for these sessions on the events page of the website.

Stay safe, stay active and keep smiling everyone, you are doing a fantastic job. 😄
