Road to Tokyo Games 2019 - Cycling Year 5/6 (Members Only Event)
Warrington Road to Tokyo Cycling – Olympic (Italian) Persuit Year 5/6 Festival
A team will consist of 5 cyclists, any child from year 5 / 6
Olympic Sprint – another name is the Italian Pursuit. Teams race round an oval grass track against the clock in pursuit formation, i.e. single file one behind the other. The teams start on opposite sides of the track.
Each rider does one lap on the front of their team before leaving the track and moving to a holding pen leaving 4 riders. The rider second in line becomes the leader and does one lap on the front of their team before leaving the track to join the rider in the holding pen, leaving 3 in the team etc. Each rider does one lap leading their team and leaves the track until the last remaining rider finishes their lap and the time is taken on that final rider.
Riders stay in their positions and don’t overtake their team mates. It’s best to put the youngest riders off at the front as they do the least number of laps. The strongest riders go last as they do the most laps. The last rider would, therefore, do 5 laps in a team of 5, the first rider’s only ever one lap.
